I'm super honored that you would invite me to be a part of your event! Due to my primary responsibilities as a husband, father, and pastor, I am not able to say yes to everything, but I love to speak about Jesus and prayerfully consider each invitation. Events that take me away on a Sunday are more difficult to say "yes" to, but I do schedule a few Sunday speaking events each year. I'm typically booking events at least 4-6 months in advance.
WHAT TOPICS DO YOU SPEAK ON?
I love to speak to teenagers, college students, parents, youth volunteers, youth ministry professionals and at marriage retreats (with my wife, Natalie). Below are some of the typical topics I speak on, but I'm happy to work together to craft specific talks to meet the needs of your organization. In all of my talks, the focus is Jesus. I love offering practical insights and tips, but the Gospel is central to every message.
WHAT DO YOU CHARGE?
This past year I spoke 30+ times, in addition to preaching at my own church. Natalie and I realized that in order for me to continue to take time away from our family and our local church, I needed to ask for honorariums that would make it worth the sacrifice that's required in preparing talks and being out-of-town. I realize these suggested rates may be out of reach for some non-profit budgets and I'm happy to chat and see if we can make something work. When I come to speak at your event, I'm all yours during the time I'm with you. If you book me for the day, feel free to fill the day with anything I can do to serve you and your ministry. I'm happy to lead worship, wash dishes, meet one-on-one with folks, etc...
In addition to the honorarium, hosts are asked to cover travel expenses, which I work hard to keep to a minimum.
If the speaking engagement is less than a 4-hour drive from Greensboro, NC, I ask that you cover mileage (.55/mile). If it's over 4-hours, I typically prefer to fly to limit time away from my family. I do enjoy bringing one or all of them along if the engagement is suitable. When traveling for multiple days, I ask the host organization to cover the travel cost for me to also bring one family member with me. Often our daughter, Honey (born in 2009), will join me and her presence is an added bonus for all the hosting organizations. She's amazing!
If the event is more than a 2-hour drive from Greensboro, NC, there is a minimum suggested honorarium of $1000/day, regardless of the talk(s) length, since it will require nearly a full day of travel and speaking. If the event is too late for me to be able to arrive home by midnight, I also ask that you cover a hotel room.
Travel expenses are based on the lowest non-stop economy class airfare from Greensboro, NC, plus ground transportation. I try hard to find the best deals possible. Events that require travel across more than one time zone from Greensboro generally need to be at least two days in duration.
